Choosing a UAE home-services platform — what to actually compare
There are roughly four types of home-services providers in the UAE. This page is a generic, brand-free guide to how each one works, and what you should compare before you book — from any of them, including us. We don't name competitors here, because pricing and policies change weekly and any specific claim could be out of date by tomorrow.
1. App-based booking platforms
How they work
You install a native phone app, browse a service catalogue, pick a slot, pay by card, and a vetted technician shows up. The platform employs the technicians directly or works with a small partner network. Most started in Dubai and slowly expanded outward.
Typical strengths
- Polished booking UX
- Consistent uniformed staff
- Predictable hourly pricing
Typical limitations
- Coverage often limited to Dubai or Dubai + Abu Dhabi
- Card-only payment
- App download required (20-40 MB)
- Limited cash-on-delivery
2. Large national platforms (multi-country brands)
How they work
International or multi-country brands that aggregate vetted partners and sub-contract jobs. Strong in marketing and standard service categories, but coverage in the UAE outside the major emirates is often thinner than the brand suggests.
Typical strengths
- Brand familiarity from other markets
- Wide service category list on paper
- Loyalty programs
Typical limitations
- Big-platform pricing premium
- Quality varies by sub-contracted partner
- Coverage gaps in northern emirates
- Slower customer-support response on disputes
3. Marketplace aggregators (request and quote)
How they work
You submit a request describing the job. The platform forwards it to several partner companies, each of whom returns a separate quote. You then compare and pick. The platform itself doesn't do the work; it routes leads to small businesses that pay a commission.
Typical strengths
- Wide range of partners
- Competing quotes can lower price
- Good for unusual or one-off jobs
Typical limitations
- 10 to 30 minutes between request and first quote
- You handle multiple sales calls
- Quality varies by which partner you pick
- No single point of accountability if something goes wrong
4. Single-service operators (specialists)
How they work
Companies that focus on one service category, usually maid service or AC cleaning. They tend to be lean, hourly-priced, and good at the one thing they do.
Typical strengths
- Deep expertise in their category
- Lower overhead, often cheaper hourly
- Same staff on repeat visits
Typical limitations
- You need a different provider for every other service
- Limited geographic coverage
- No cross-service bundling
5. Informal individual workers
How they work
Individual workers found through building concierges, WhatsApp groups, classified ads, or word of mouth. No platform behind them. Often cheapest, but you carry all the risk.
Typical strengths
- Lowest cash price
- Personal relationship if it works out
- Flexible hours
Typical limitations
- No vetting
- No background check
- No recourse if work is poor or property is damaged
- Often unlicensed under UAE labour rules
What to compare before booking — from any provider
📋 The 8-point check
- Emirate coverage — does it cover where you actually live?
- Service breadth — can the same provider handle the next job too?
- Damage and theft cover — what's the AED limit and who pays the claim?
- Time from booking to arrival — same-day, next-day, or scheduled-only?
- Pricing transparency — is the quote final or are there add-ons on the day?
- Payment options — card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, WhatsApp, cash on delivery?
- Redo / refund policy — how many days, what does it cover, and how do you claim?
- Background-check policy — are workers vetted, and how is that proven?
