# What is Griha Pravesh?

Moving into a new home is one of life's biggest milestones — and in the Hindu tradition, a home is not merely walls and a roof. Griha Pravesh ("entering the house") is the sacred ceremony that purifies the new space, honours Vastu Purush — the spirit of the dwelling — and invites the blessings of the deities before the family sleeps its first night inside.

Skipping it and "doing it later" is the most common regret we hear. The ceremony is meant to come first: tradition holds that the home should be blessed before daily life begins in it.

# The three types of Griha Pravesh

1. Apoorva — for a brand-new home entered for the first time
2. Sapoorva — for re-entering a home after time abroad or a long absence
3. Dwandwah — for entering a home after renovation or repair

Most families in the UAE perform Apoorva Griha Pravesh for new apartments and villas, and Dwandwah after major renovations.

# What happens during the ceremony

• Kalash sthapana — a copper pot of holy water, mango leaves and coconut leads the family across the threshold
• Ganesh vandana — obstacles are removed before anything else begins
• Vastu shanti and havan — the sacred fire ceremony purifies the space
• Boiling of milk — the first act in the new kitchen, symbolising abundance that overflows
• Aarti and blessings — for peace, prosperity and happiness in the new home

Your pandit guides every member of the family through their part — nothing needs to be memorised.

# When should it be done?

The muhurat is chosen from the panchang based on tithi and nakshatra, and the auspicious window differs by week and by regional tradition. This is exactly what we help with: tell us your move-in week and we confirm the precise auspicious timing for you.

# What you need vs. what we arrange

You need: your family present, and the home reasonably ready. We arrange: the verified pandit, the muhurat guidance, and — with samagri delivery — every ritual item, from kalash to havan samagri, delivered before the ceremony.

Family abroad? Add live video streaming so parents in India join the ceremony in real time.
