Fix: Lift the hood once a year. Wipe down the back panel with degreaser. Re-mount.

2. The dishwasher base

The threshold strip between the kitchen and the balcony in most BB towers has a 2-4mm gap underneath where adjustable feet were not levelled at install. Cockroaches and ants both use this. Plus rain water can sit in the gap during winter, encouraging more activity.

Fix: Caulk the threshold with silicone every 18 months.

4. The garbage cabinet drain

The garbage cabinet under the sink has a small drain to catch leaks. In some BB towers this drain leads directly into the under-sink void. That void becomes a cockroach harbourage city.

Fix: Pour 1 cup of bleach into the garbage cabinet drain monthly. Kills eggs and breaks scent trails.
